I'd assume manually altering the individual song (-/+ upto 100%) does the same, but I've never had the need to play with that particular option. ITunes 'Sound Check' functionality stores the volume adjustment value in a metadata tag, 'iTunNORM'. Also apologies if this post isn't very clear, I'll try and elaborate if needed.No DSP shenanigans involved, if you're talking about the 'Sound Check' feature via iTunes Preferences. I can gather it appears to be a bug with the new iTunes update? I'd appreciate help with this or if anyone could offer any alternatives or temporary solutions. I tried looking for a solution on google, but the search results provided no solution. This makes listening to music on the ipod with earphones quite painful, as it can switch from one song with reasonable volume to the next song with unexpectedly loud volume. Turns out the volume has not been changed at all, with most of the library remaining at 100% volume with the newer music remaining at the default 50%.

It appeared to be working, it took maybe 30 mins for it to finish adjusting the volume, which I thought was a bit odd as I remembered it took quite a bit longer than that before. I thought I'd be able to select my entire library (12000 or so songs in total) and manually re-adjust the volume back to the default 50% setting. Since I've upgraded to the 160GB, I sync'd my iTunes Library with my new iPod. I've also kept the Volume on my iPod 80GB at the default volume setting for every song. My iTunes library is a bit of a mess, I adjusted the Volume Adjustment to 100% for most of the library in the 'Get Info' tab a long time ago, but some of the albums I've added recently have been kept at the default 50% volume setting. I upgraded from a 80GB iPod Classic to a 160GB Classic.
